No. 26 Peak Road, HK

26 Peak Road is arguably one of the most prestigious sites in Hong Kong's exclusive Peak Area. It offers a picturesque postcard-like view over Hong Kong and Victoria Harbor. Aware of the site's prominence and high-visibility, Nan Fung Development Ltd, developer and owner, wanted an exclusive low-rise service apartment. MLA took on the task to provide the design, as well as setting a new precedent for future 26 Peak Road is arguably one of the most prestigious site in Hong Kong’s exclusive Peak area. It offers a picturesque post-card like view over Hong Kong and Victoria Harbour. The site’s prominence and high visibility demand a unique presence but not necessarily an overtly land mark appearance. It is eye catching in its elegant simplicity and well proportioned form, and when noticed will carry an undertone of humbleness to the magnificent landscape. The building is only 11 storey but it is still highly visible from Central to Happy Valley.

Cladded in grey stonework and punched with large clear glass windows, the tower is crowned with a roof top lantern made up of narrow vertical fins and a pergola masking the protruding core. A sandblast glass curtain wall is used to cover the rear staircase to dematerialize its pedantic presence and act as a beacon light towards the dimly lit mountainous roads on the Peak. Each floor of this eleven storey development contains only one apartment of a size of up to 3,377 m2, a rare phenomenon in the residential culture of Hong Kong.
